When he was in eighth grade, Robert Vuyosevich’s uncle read The Headmaster by John McPhee ’49 and decided Deerfield was the perfect school for his beloved nephew. “So began the most transformative chapter in my life,” Bob remembers.
At Deerfield Bob tried everything he could—debate, golf, soccer, music, poetry. His most memorable experience was playing the guitar and singing his original compositions at a concert on campus. “I received a standing ovation, which completely blew me away!”
During his 40-year career as an architect, specializing in independent schools and higher education, Bob has stayed involved with Deerfield. He is currently the chair of the Class of 1972’s 50th Reunion Committee. In honor of this milestone, Bob designated Deerfield as the primary beneficiary of his retirement account.
The gift—which was easy to execute using a simple beneficiary designation form—will benefit Deerfield after Bob’s death. But he has the satisfaction of knowing that the Robert Dell Vuyosevich ’72 Financial Aid Fund will connect him with Deerfield in perpetuity, and he hopes that future students will take full advantage of opportunities to learn and grow at Deerfield, as he did.
Bob encourages other alumni to follow his example and include Deerfield in their estate plans.
“For me, donating and being involved with Deerfield come very naturally. Of all the institutions I’ve been involved with, Deerfield means the most to me.”
“The most important thing I gained at Deerfield was the strongest sense of community that I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime.” |
